Early Beginnings: Learning Resilience in Korea
My martial arts path began at the tender age of eight in my native Korea, against the backdrop of the Korean War. This challenging time instilled in me a passion for self-defense and spiritual practice, tools that empowered me to thrive amidst adversity. After serving honorably in the Korean Army, I explored various mixed martial arts styles, driven by a relentless thirst for knowledge.
Solitary Training Odyssey on Ji Li Mountain
My dedication to martial arts led me to a self-taught journey of Kung Fu, studying diligently in libraries before embarking on a solitary training odyssey atop the 7,000-foot Ji Li Mountain. For six months, I dedicated twelve hours each day to perfecting my craft, a testament to my determination and pursuit of excellence, without any instructors' guidance.
Embracing Mentorship & Sharing Knowledge Across the US
As Tae Kwon Do and Hap Ki Do's popularity surged, I nurtured my talents under esteemed mentors, Jand Su Ok and O Hak Su, and eventually brought my wealth of knowledge to the United States in 1987. I've dedicated myself to teaching across multiple schools, enriching students' lives with personalized attention and a holistic approach to martial arts.
Approach to Health and Wellness
My commitment extends beyond martial arts; I am deeply invested in my students' well-being, growth, and learning. My teaching style integrates physical practice with spiritual and life practices, offering a transformative experience that promotes health, relaxation, and personal growth. As a 3rd generation acupressurist and herbalist, my classes also offer insights into releasing tension and achieving balance through Qigong Therapy and the wisdom of Oriental Philosophy.

With expertise in various martial arts styles and a 7th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, I have shared my knowledge across the US and performed live demonstrations, carrying on the legacy of my grandfather, Nakchung Kim, a famous Korean acupuncturist and herbalist. I am also the author of "Secrets of Qi Gong Therapy."
